Dr. David Allen

In part I we looked at how CO2 levels have spiked since the industrial revolution and the alarming warming trend since 1970.

In part II we look at a range of before and after images that highlight just how quickly our world is changing.

Move the slider from left to right for each image to see the change.

In the Mawson Sea, named after one of Australia’s greatest explorers, new islands are being discovered as the ice recedes over mere decades.

In the Nile Delta, farmland used for millennia is being engulfed by desert.

In Chile, a decade long mega drought has depleted snow depth.

In Australia, we have experienced record-breaking floods as weather patterns become more extreme.

In New Zealand, glaciers are receding at an alarming rate and will not recover unless the warming trend is reversed.

In the Arctic, ice is retreating at a rate of 12% per decade, and it is very likely that the summer sea ice will disappear complete within this century.

Sadly, climate change is impacting ecosystems and livelihoods, not in some distant future, but right now before our eyes.
